1. Could you tell us a little bit about yourself?
I was raised in a musical family in the St. Louis, Missouri area of the United States. My father was & still is a guitar player and singer, and has always had a band that he performs with. My mother plays keyboards; my sister and brother also play guitar and sing. I took drum and piano lessons through junior high, high school, and college. I’ve always, in some way, been involved in music and ministry my whole life. I feel the Lord has really directed my life in that way. I am a very blessed man. My wife, Leann, and I now live in Nashville and have been married for 24 years.

2. For how long have you been playing drums?
I’ve been playing professionally for over 30 years. I started playing with bands in high school, then through college, and it continued throughout my whole working career. When I got saved in college much of my music work was connected with Christian music and praise & worship. It’s not that I’m against playing other music; it’s just the way the Lord has directed my life. I think it’s important to remember that your whole life is ministry no matter what work the Lord has given you to do.

3. What did you or do you practice for drums / percussion?
I started taking piano & drum lessons when I was young. So I studied music theory, scales, drum rudiments, a lot of musical repertoire. I also worked on many different drum method books in both percussion and drum set studies. I also study different books and DVD’s now as well. No matter how long you’ve been playing you should keep learning. I also listen to all styles of music and try to learn from what I hear. It’s important to learn from others, either by actual lessons or going to drum clinics and studying DVDs.
4. Is there any particular drum, percussion and cymbal brand you play with?
I’m a Yamaha drum artist and really love their equipment. I mostly use the Maple Custom Absolute series, but I’ve used their other series of drums as well. I also play Meinl cymbals and percussion equipment. They make fantastic instruments and cymbals. I am also a Shure microphone artist, as well as Presonus electronics.

5. What is your history in drumming? (Bands / artists, albums, tours, concerts, churches)
When I first played it was with my family at home and friends in school. Then I joined my Dad’s band at age 16, playing country and popular music in the St. Louis area. In school I was also playing in orchestras and jazz groups, besides my other band work. After school I free-lanced a lot playing in many different local bands and finally landed in a popular Rock /R&B band called Fantasy. After I was saved I became more involved with worship music and Christian bands. Through the years I’ve toured and recorded extensively with many Integrity Music artists. Paul Baloche, Don Moen, Paul Wilbur, and others are some of the most booked artist on my schedule right now. While I tour and teach at seminars I still work on recording sessions in Nashville and other cities as well.
6. And how are you at this point involved in church or in any other events, ministry, bands / artists – related to your drumming?
Leann & I are attending a church in Nashville with powerful worship & ministry called Grace Center. We’re not on staff, but we participate with different teams quite often. We also go out together and lead worship & teach at seminars, conferences, and various churches. Sometimes just spending a weekend with one team to coach and train them personally. Leann’s band members are excellent as players, but also have tremendous hearts for ministry

7. I know you are playing and working with Paul Baloche a lot on “worship projects”, if I can say so – can you share any experience from all this time?
What I love the most about Paul Baloche is that he is still humble and hungry for more of God. His success has not gone to his head. The band has become very close. We are like brothers at this point. He writes songs that are interesting musically, but still palatable (/dictionary/palatable) to the general public. And when we worship together the whole team presses in closely to the Lord and we try to help the people experience that with us.
8. What advice would you give to young drummers who are serving or intend to serve in the worship department?
Be faithful to whatever the Lord gives you to do. There are no “big gigs” to God. Everything He calls you to do is important. Whether it’s playing for a home group, childrens ministry, small group or a large concert the Lord’s presence is the same and He deserves our best. Practice! Prepare! Pray! Stay humble, and keep learning… you’ll never know it all.

9. I have seen that you are also involved in a lot of events together with your wife Leann – how does this help in your ministry?
Leann & I get to minister and work together about 50% of the time. I’m her producer and music director. In those settings I try to make sure things run smoothly for her and the team. When we work for other artists or seminars we enjoy working together helping people and ministering to the Lord in worship. We love being together. She is the Lord’s best gift to me on this earth, besides being saved of course. Praise the Lord!
10. Any tips for worship players? (Like using hotrods or anything else)
It’s important for any musician to adjust to the room you play in. Do not play too loud!! Adapt to your surroundings. Sometimes you have to use lighter sticks or hotrods or brushes. Ask your team and the engineer if it sounds OK to them, and take advice. Also learn the music very well. Know the songs so perfectly that you can worship with it and not think of the technical things so much. Your goal is to help your team and the people to experience God, not to bring attention to yourself. All of life and ministry is about loving God and loving people. The 2 Greatest Commandments. 11. Any books, tapes, DVD’s you have out for sale?

12. Lastly, any message to the Christian Romanian drummers?
No matter what country or circumstance you live in stay focused on Jesus. He truly is the only source of true joy and happiness in the world. And only He is worthy of all praise and honor and glory. Neither politics, economics, leaders, nor any other man made thing will fill the emptiness in people’s souls. We are empty without HIM. And musicians and artists have a special calling in the earth to be the gatekeepers of His manifest presence. Let us all humbly and faithfully serve Him to see our world changed.
